The 14 best places to watch sunsets in Bali, Indonesia
La Plancha
When you have limited time on Bali, you should definitely check-out this place. It is located right on the beach in Seminyak and has plenty of comfortable beanbag chairs. Sit down, drink a cheap cocktail, and watch the sunset!
Echo Beach
Another sunset hotspot is Echo Beach, which is located in Canggu. The beach is a well-known surfing spot and has some great seafood cafés. A perfect location to watch a sunset!

Tanah Lot temple
When you are a culture and nature lover, you should visit the Tanah Lot temple. Here you can see the sun set as the tide goes down and this results in an amazing postcard like scenery.
If you don’t feel like riding a scooter yourself to Tanah Lot, you can also book an organized tour. With a guided excursion you will learn about the culture and admire the sunset over the sea at Tanah Lot Temple.
Uluwatu Temple
Another great temple where you can view the sunset is at the Uluwatu Temple. This temple is located on top of a steep cliff and is surrounded by the magical ocean.
Next to the temple you can find an open-air Amphitheatre where you can watch the famous Kecak fire dance. The show usually starts around sunset time and provide you with an amazing sunset view in the back of the show. I loved it! You can buy tickets directly at the Uluwatu temple or book a tour in advance including transportation by a private car and entrance tickets for the show.

Pura Lempuyang Luhur, Karangasem
This temple is a bit more off the beaten path in comparison with the Tanah Lot temple or the Uluwatu temple. Here, you first have to climb thousand steps to the temple’s top level. Above, you will feel like you are standing on the clouds. When the weather is clear and sunny, you can see Mount Agung and during sunset time an amazing view!
Like most of the other temples in Bali, you can drive here yourself with scooter or book an organized tour to Pera Lempuyang Luhur.
Kuta beach
One of the busiest beaches of Bali, and not one that I normally would recommend to visit, but I have to say that from this beach the sunset looks pretty nice too! Despite the crowd, the beach is long and you can find a good and quiet spot. You can enjoy the sun set down, see some surfers, peddlers, and visitors.

Single Fin Bali, Uluwatu
Single Fin is an amazing cliff-top bar at Uluwatu. During sunset time, the bar is packet with tourists that enjoy the music, good food, surfers skills, and most importantly, a wonderful sunset.
Lovina beach
Up in North Bali, Lovina Beach is worth a visit! The black sand beach stretches out over two kilometers and is the perfect place to see the sun set down. Lovina is also popular for the sunrise dolphin tours. If you decide to see the sunrise in combination with a dolphin tour in the early morning, make sure to book a sustainable tour. Some tour companies don’t matter the dolphins and therefore, it can get very busy on the water. Find more tips on this in our Lovina Travel Guide.

Potato head beach club
If you like beach clubs and bars, you should visit the Potato head beach club and watch the sun go down at this swanky beach lounge. If you want to go for dinner, make sure to reserve a table in advance.
Warung Sunset Point Amed
Looking for a different sunset experience than at the beach or at a temple? From here, in Amed, you can experience the Balinese sunset in a different way. See the sun set behind Mount Agung!

Pemuteran Bay
Another great place to see the sunset is at Pemuteran Bay. This village is located close to Kuta, and is known for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Dreamland Beach
A must visit to see the sunset! This beach is located more south of the Island and will provide you with a clear sunset. Make sure to bring a flash light, since the way down (and especially up after sunset) is not so easy.

Jimbaran Bay
If you love food, and in particular fish, you should visit one of the plenty fresh seafood restaurants in Jimbaran Bay. Enjoy freshly caught seafood while seeing the sun disappear into the horizon.
Silent Hill, Bukit Asah, Karangasem
Love nature and camping? Go for a Picknick or camping to the hillside of Bugbug Village, Karangasem. The view will definitely inspire you!

The 6 best places to watch sunrises in Bali, Indonesia
Tegallalang Rice Terraces
Close to Ubud center, you can find the famous Tegalalang rice terraces. When visiting in the early morning, you can see the sun rise above the terraces and reflect on the pools. It is so much more worth a visit during the sunrise than during the day, when it is overflooded with tourists.
Sanur Beach
Sanur is the perfect place to watch the sun rise over the water! Go in the early morning, enjoy the quietness, and see the sun rise.

Ubud Water Palace
Rather than see the sunrise at a beach, go and see it rise at a temple! Located in Ubud, this water palace with a lotus lagoon, is a great place to see a sunrise.
Pura Ulun Danu Beratan
This temple is another great place to see a sunrise in Bali. In the early morning, the water is still, and the sun slowly rises over the mountains behind the temple.

Campuhan Ridge Walk Ubud
This place is located just outside Ubud and is a popular sunrise and sunset location in Bali. If you are looking for an escape from the noise of Ubud center, you should definitely try a sunrise hike along the Campuhan Ridge Walk.
Mount Batur
For our adventurous readers, I can definitely recommend seeing the sunrise from the top of Mount Batur. You will wake up in the middle of the night, hike in complete darkness 1717 meters up, to view the most unforgettable sunrise of your life. I hiked twice to the top of Mount Batur and really enjoyed it.
It is mandatory to have a guide when hiking to the top of Mount Batur. Both times I went with a group of friends on the scooter and we hired a guide who joined us for the hike up. You can also book a tour online, such as the Sunrise Mount Batur Hike which includes transportation, entrance fee, a professional guide, breakfast, drinks, flashlight and a trekking pole.
