3 Hip Historic Downtowns to Explore Near Indianapolis

Sometimes on vacation, you’re looking for a slower pace of life that reminds you of the way things were when you were younger. Many of the small cities around Indianapolis have that kind of laid-back vibe that you’re looking for while maintaining a hip atmosphere that can only be achieved with great restaurants, boutique shops, and other attractions for the young at heart. Visit one of these great downtowns this weekend and see what all the fuss is about.

Westfield

Located only about a half an hour north of Indianapolis, Westfield, Indiana, is a sight to behold. With a population just over 37,000, Westfield provides that small town feel that visitors love without leaving the city too far behind. Hotels in Westfield are reasonably priced, making it an affordable option for a long weekend excursion or even a lengthier stay, and there is so much to do that you won’t run out of attractions to explore.

The area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts looking to wander its seemingly endless trails and forests, but downtown Westfield has exciting options for less adventurous travelers as well. Try heading to the Urban Vines Winery for a tasting or participate in any number of festivals that take over the downtown streets from June to August. Whatever your interests, you’ll surely find that and a whole lot more in Westfield.

For real foodies, Noblesville, Indiana, has no fewer than 14 restaurants in the historic downtown alone. This city, which is about 40 minutes north-northeast of Indianapolis, really knows how to treat its guests. Alexander’s on the Square is an old-fashioned eatery that will take you back in time with its classic cuisine and ice cream flavors. Or, if you’re looking for something more upscale, try Matteo’s Ristorante Italiano for authentic Italian fare in a fine dining atmosphere.

Noblesville isn’t all about food, however. It houses a popular music venue, the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center, which has hosted such acts as Cyndi Lauper, Rod Stewart, Def Leppard, Chris Stapleton, and many more. It is also home to Country Moon Winery, which is an excellent place to visit for a tasting or a tour.

The Mayberry Cafe alone makes Danville, Indiana, worth a visit. Even if the ’50s era diner were the only building in Danville, it would be completely worth the 40-minute drive from Indianapolis for a bite to eat that will transport you back to days long gone. Danville has many other sights to see, however, with a downtown area that is chock full of historical landmarks and locally owned shops.

While you’re in Danville, be sure to visit the Arcane Coffee Company, located on Marion Street across from the original post office. This coffee shop and retail store has what many consider to be the best cold brew coffee in the area. Likewise, Blush Boutique has all the skin care and fashion accessories that a woman could want, just waiting for you to explore.

There is so much around Indianapolis for you to see. Make the short drive to one of these cute, hip towns, and you’ll never want to leave!
