Travelling is no doubt one of the best ways to get a rush. With exciting destinations, new cultures and unique cuisine, travel abroad is often an impactful and memorable experience.
Ask any 10 friends and chances are, not more than two of them travels as much as they’d like to. Even if you have expert tips on booking flights, those tickets can get expensive. And even if you’ve found the ideal travel partner, it can be tough finding the initiative to actually book the trips you want to take.
Give Yourself a Destination
Your chances of making the trip are a lot better if you find a tangible reason to go to your destination. And that’s where skydiving comes in.
Skydiving and travel go together like camping and stargazing. Once you’re there, it’s a breathtaking way to enjoy your time. You may have seen some awesome places, but seeing them from 12,000+ feet makes for an experience you’ll never forget. You’ll be soaring through the troposphere with a whole new perspective.
These are a few destinations with fantastic views from above. Some are typical tourist spots, and others a bit more surprising. If you’re willing to step out of a perfectly good plane at these destinations, get ready for the ultimate adventure.
1. The California Coast
Southern California, and the area around Los Angeles in particular, is one of the most popular places to skydive of anywhere in the world. Go beyond Hollywood tours, and book a day-trip up to an altitude with even more to see. The area offers perfect year-round weather for skydiving, not to mention awesome views of the Pacific Ocean. Check out some of these great spots when planning your skydiving holiday.
Looking a bit further afield in the Pacific, Fiji offers a panorama like no other. From above, take in the best view of the islands thousands of feet below for an unforgettable experience. Let gravity pull you down slowly as you glide gracefully onto the beach at the end of your dive. Top it off with a bit of snorkeling the next day. You will never forget the illuminating turquoise waters of Fiji, and your Instagram account won’t either.
3. New Zealand
From one island location to another, visit the “gateway to paradise” and see the Southern Alps from above. Movie buffs will appreciate a whole new view on Lord of the Rings, with mountain tops and hilly landscapes dotted with white sheep. Find your digs in Queenstown and get closer to Middle Earth as you pull the ripcord on your descent. For the novice jumper, a tandem jump is just the thing.
Toronto offers some of the best first-jump support for beginners. With the benefit of being a spectacular cosmopolitan city, Toronto offer cityscape vistas amongst the backdrop of Lake Ontario. The city has many drop locations that offer certification for ambitious or experienced skydivers. If you already have a chute, you’ll have no trouble logging in jumps at a variety of locations outside the city.
5. Amalfi Coast
Your friends are all headed to Tuscany, but you want something a bit more than a wine tour. The Amalfi Coast offers spectacular jumps and great vistas comparable to any vineyard panorama. Replace your glass of wine with a breeze and jump tandem from the Salerno airport. Situated southeast of Naples, you’ll experience more than the ancient castles of the city.
Often overshadowed by Chicago, this up-and-coming gem has a long history in aviation, and skydiving is no exception. In fact, there are several drop locations situated between Milwaukee and Chicago, offering unparalleled views of cityscapes and Lake Michigan at hard-to-beat prices. With a strong military history in this area, you can be sure of a quality experience in the midwest.
