The Netherlands

A beautiful stay along the water, near Leiden

Are you travelling to the Netherlands? Think about a visit to the beautiful city of Leiden! It’s a city with a rich history, but also with pretty canals and lots of lively places to eat, drink and have some fun. Leiden has plenty of accommodation options in the center. However, we chose to stay just outside the city during our stay. In Rijpwetering to be exact. In this article I’ll tell you some more about this stay.

Would you like to read more about our weekend to Leiden? Stay tuned, because soon I’ll write a post about it!

General information

During our search for an accommodation in/around Leiden, we looked up some options in the center, but also just outside of Leiden. Eventually, we came across an apartment on Airbnb in Rijpwetering which we really liked and we booked it for the weekend. As we also wanted to visit some places in nature / at the beach and not only the city of Leiden, this looked like a really nice option. The complex has three apartments. On the photo above, it’s the left building on which our apartment was located at the right window and the upper window.

Location

Rating: 4 out of 5.

As told earlier, the apartment is located in Rijpwetering. It’s on a quiet location just outside the center and therefor it’s easiest to have a (rental)car for reaching the apartment. It gets a little bit more difficult to reach it by public transportation.

I loved the location, as it’s directly by the water. This gives some beautiful views over the water as well. If you like to walk, you can reach the center with a few restaurants in approximately 30 minutes by foot. You can also take the car and eat something in surrounded villages. If you’d like to go to Leiden, it’s only a 15 minutes drive away.

Shortly, it’s located in a relaxed and quiet environment, but still close to all the places to visit.

The apartment

Rating: 4 out of 5.

In the above and below pictures you can have a view on the looks of the apartment. It has quite some space: a living room with sofa and television, a small table for dining and a kitchen with everything you need. The bathroom features a shower, toilet and sink. When you take the stairs, you’ll get into the bedroom with a double bed and a window through which you can look at the stars (if possible of course).

The apartment has everything you’ll need. The only thing I missed was a normal table to which you can sit on, because I don’t really like high tables like this. The apartment was clean and nice. You don’t have to bring your towels or linen, because it’s all there for you.

Facilities

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

There aren’t really facilities at the complex which you can share with other guests. There are only the apartments and that’s it. You can park your car for free in front of the building, which is really nice. The facilities inside the apartment were well arranged.

Service

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

We’ve been in good contact with the renter. Before arriving, the information they provided was very clear complete. At arrival, they don’t welcome you, which means we haven’t seen the host at all during our stay. Not really a problem, of course. There was a key box at the door in which the key was located for our apartment. This was all well arranged.

Price

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

A stay in this apartment costs around € 110,- per night (excluding breakfast, which you cannot book optionally, it’s all self service). Although we’ve had a really nice stay, I find the price just a little higher than expected. I’m not sure what the other apartments cost. We had the one with the complete view over the water, which was a really nice extra!

In short, I can definitely recommend this apartment for your trip to Leiden. If you’re looking for a place to stay in a restful environment, but not to far away from Leiden, you’re at the right place. It’s also the perfect place for people who would like to cook themselves for example, as you can make use of the kitchen. It’s also a nice base from where you can visit other places in the surroundings.
