A unique stay in a nature house on and by the water

Last weekend, Daphne and I went away for the weekend to Boskoop: a town located in the province of South-Holland, right between the cities Amsterdam and Rotterdam. As it’s located in ‘The Green Heart of Holland’, a typical Dutch area with windmils, cows, cheese, farms and traditional crafts, it has a beautiful natural environment. We booked a holiday home through Nature House, called the Greenhouse. Here we spent two nights. In this article I’d like to tell you more about the Greenhouse and our experiences.

About Nature House

The name says it all: Nature House offers unique stays in the nature in a diversity of destinations. There is a choice of more than 16.000 houses worldwide. These houses are located in the middle of nature, away from the crowd and contribute to nature projects. You can book all kinds of nature houses on the website: from unique cabins in the woods to luxury camping and from off-grid hikers cabins to sustainable tiny houses.

We’ll write an extensive article about Nature House later, so stay tuned if you’d like to have some more information!

About GreenFloat

GreenFloat offers houses in a green and quiet environment, located just outside the town of Boskoop. There are three houses: Greenhouse Rudbeckia (max. two persons), Greenhouse Luca (max. 3 persons) and Greenhouse Mica (max. 3 persons). You can stay in one of the houses with a minimum stay of two nights. The area around the accommodation offers plenty of possibilities!

Location

Like already told in the introduction, the GreenFloat is located in the middle of the Green Heart of Holland, which offers beautiful nature and plenty of options to do and visit during your stay. At the accommodation you can rent bikes, so you can explore more of the natural environment while cycling. Of course there also is a diverse range of hiking possibilities in the area. Our personal tip: pay a visit to the magnificent Reeuwijkse Plassen (we’ll write an extensive guide about this nature reserve later, stay tuned)! In the area you can also find several cities, like Rotterdam, The Hague, Gouda and Leiden.

The GreenFloat is easiest to reach by (rental)car, as it’s located in nature and not in a center. There is plenty of parking space on the property. If you arrive by public transport, you can take the train to Boskoop station. After, you’ll reach the nature house by walking and the bus in, approximately, 30 minutes. The Greenhouse (Nature House)

During our time at GreenFloat, we stayed at Greenhouse Rudbeckia. This nature house is located by the water and features a terrace with some beautiful views. You can enjoy a magnificent sunset in the evening from the terrace. The interior of the house is quite small, but has everything you need and is very modern.

The nature house has its own ensuite with shower, toilet and sink. Furthermore, the house features a double bed, a sitting area and a small kitchen with a cooker, refrigerator, microwave, kettle and coffee machine. There are towels (in the bathroom and kitchen) and tableware. You do need to take a few things with you, like coffee cups or toilet paper. The only thing we kind of missed in the nature house, was a bigger window which we could open during the night. There only are two small windows (one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom).

Breakfast and service

The check-in is between the hours of 03:00 PM and 06:00 PM. We arrived on Friday and we had to work before arriving, so we asked if we could arrive a little later. This was not a problem at all, so that was really nice. The welcome was very hospitable. Although our host didn’t walk with us to the house and didn’t show us around (which I thought she would), she explained some things and gave us the keys. We could send her a message some later to let her know at what time we would like to have our breakfast the next morning.

You can optionally book breakfast for your stay for a supplement of € 12,50 per person, per night. I’d absolutely say: do it! You’ll get a basket full of fresh products like you can see in the photo below. The host brought us the breakfast basket at the desired time. One small point of criticism: the host didn’t tell us what to do with the basket after we were done with our breakfast. She also didn’t pick it up at a later time so we decided to bring it to her. We’re still not sure how this works.

Facilities on the property

The Greenhouses are located on the property ‘Proetuin van Holland’. Here you can find beautiful plants and trees in the gardens of Harry v/d Laar. Furthermore, there is a restaurant called Buck Bar.Kitchen where you can have lunch, diner or a drink. If you would like to enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee with something sweet, you can go to the tearoom. Here, you can also find a shop where you can buy some local products. It’s really nice to walk around the shop and to buy yourself a souvenir.

Price of this nature house

The price of the Greenhouse is € 140,- per night (without breakfast). You can optionally book breakfast for € 12,50 per person, per night. The accommodation has a minimum stay of two nights. You can book this house through the website of Nature House.

In summary, we had a lovely stay in Greenhouse Rudbeckia! If you’re looking for an accommodation located in the nature, but also close to cities, this nature house may be the place for you! It has everything it needs for a unique stay.
