Hotel review Auckland City Hotel****

During my stay in Auckland last May, I stayed at the Auckland City Hotel. This accommodation is located in the middle of the city centre, from where you can easily walk to all city sights. When I’m searching for an accommodation, I’m most of the time looking for a comfortable hotel with clean rooms, for a good price and located in a nice area. In my opinion, the Auckland City Hotel was is a perfect choice when it comes to the points above. In this article I’ll tell you some more about the hotel and my experience.
Location
The Auckland City Hotel is located ideally in the city centre of Auckland. Within a few minutes’ walk you’ll find the Sky Tower, Aotea Square and Queen Street with its shops. You can also reach the lively port of Auckland within 15 minutes’ walking distance. It’s a perfect location.
Facilities
Apart from a restaurant and an eatery, the hotel hasn’t much facilities (thinking of a swimming pool or a gym). Optional, you can book breakfast. This is served as a buffet in the restaurant of the hotel. However, you can also have dinner in the restaurant during the evenings.
Personally, I really like the Fond(ou) Café, located near the reception of the hotel. This is a small eatery where you can buy yourself some coffee, a breakfast or some lunch. I didn’t book breakfast beforehand, but I bought my breakfast at the Fond(ou) Café, which was delicious.
Hotel Rooms
The Auckland City Hotel features 150 rooms, with a division of several room types: standard twin room, studio, 2-bedroom suite, boutique studio, boutique studio one and boutique studio two.
The boutique room types are located at a new wing of the hotel and these rooms are more luxurious comparing to the standard rooms. During my time at the Auckland City Hotel I’ve stayed at the standard twin room AND a studio. The only difference between these room types is that the studio features a kitchenette.
The room space is perfect. You have a separated hallway (with or without a kitchenette) and there is plenty of room around the bed(s). The bathroom is good too. There even is a lounge area in the room with a small table and a sofa.
Service
The service in the hotel is good. I received a coupon at the check-in for a welcome drink, but the staff also helped me with all of my questions. I could store my luggage somewhere near the reception in the time it was necessary.
Price
If you’re looking at a standard twin room, the price will be around € 115,- for one night (excluding breakfast). This price is very reasonable for all that you get (a nice and spacious room, a great location…). If you’re looking for a budget accommodation, this may not be the right choice for you. Same for if you’re looking for a very luxurious accommodation. This is a good four-star hotel with nice, but simple rooms and for a reasonable price. You can book this hotel through Booking.com.
Overview
This overview is a summary of the points written above. I’ll give a point from one star until five stars where one star is very bad and five stars is very good.
