Hotel Review Avillion Cameron Highlands**** – Malaysia

The Cameron Highlands, located not that far from Kuala Lumpur, is well known for its tea plantations. This highland is one of the most popular sights of Malaysia. Great places to explore these tea plantations from, are Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Both towns offer lots of accommodations and several restaurants and shops.

During my trip through Malaysia and the Cameron Highlands, I spent some nights at the Avillion Cameron Highlands Hotel, located in Tanah Rata. In this article I’ll tell you some more about the accommodation.

Would you like to read more about the Cameron Highlands and its highlights? I’ve written an extensive guide about the area which you can find by clicking here.

Why we booked this accommodation

The Avillion Cameron Highlands Hotel is located in the centre of Tanah Rata (above a shopping mall), which make it a great starting point to explore more of the tea plantations, but also the hiking trails. By our search for accommodations, we especially looked at good reviews, but also at the price-quality ratio (looking at the reviews). We wanted to stay at an accommodation which could offer comfort, but was also located at a central location. These were the main reasons for us.

Location

Like mentioned earlier, the hotel is located in the centre of Tanah Rata and therefor it’s a great starting point for exploring the tea plantations. In the evening, you can easily walk towards a nice restaurant or bar. Also, within walking distance from the hotel you can find the start of some hiking trails. We had a rental car, so it was easy for us to go from one tea plantation to the other. If you don’t have a rental car, it will be a little harder. However, there are many tours organized which will go to the tea plantations as well. If you haven’t booked a tour beforehand, there are some small offices in the centre of Tanah Rata where you can book a tour.

The Room

The room we stayed at was very spacious and modern. There was a little fridge, which I always find very useful. The bed was very comfortable. I loved the room, it had everything we needed.

Breakfast

When you book a stay at the Avillion Cameron Highlands, you can enjoy breakfast as well. The breakfast is served in the central area, right next to the reception. Everything is well organized through buffet, although I have to say that most of the dishes are from the Asian kitchen. There weren’t many options for a “continental breakfast”, but it was fine.

Service

The service at the reception of the hotel was very good. When we arrived, we couldn’t find the parking place of the hotel (it was located in a garage under the shopping mall), so I first went to the reception and they helped me well. The check-in went well too, same as the welcome at the breakfast.

Price

The hotel offers a great price for everything you get in return! You pay around € 50,- per night, including breakfast; which is very cheap. In return you get very spacious, clean and modern rooms. You can book this accommodation via Booking.com.

Overview

This overview is a summary of the points written above. I’ll give a point from one star until five stars where one star is very bad and five stars is very good.

Location: *****
Room size: *****
Room attributes: ****
Bathroom: ****
Facilities: ***
Service: ****
Price-quality: *****

Above you can find how I think about the several subjects regarding the hotel. In short, it is a nice and centrally located hotel which is a great starting point for exploring the tea plantations. The rooms are great, same as the price-quality ratio. The facilities of the hotel could maybe more extensive.

Hopefully this gave you some inspiration for the planning of your trip to Malaysia and the Cameron Highlands!
