Gili Nanggu Lombok… When most of the people hear about the Gili islands in Indonesia, they probably think of the 3 famous Gili islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air in the northwest of Lombok. But did you know that there are many more Gili islands that are even more pretty and beautiful? A day trip to Gili Nanggu is like being transported to a completely different world, or at least a different Indonesia! No traffic, no crowds, and no vendors, but just unexploited nature and plenty of tropical fish. I recently visited Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong, Gili Kedis, and Gili Sudak. This post will introduce you to the paradise islands of Lombok!

How to reach Gili Nanggu?

Gili Nanggu is the most famous Gili of the South-Western Gili islands, but all of them are natural beauties and have unexploited nature. The islands are located at the southwest of Lombok and can only be reached by boat. Most boats are departing from Lembar or West Sekotong. Together with two friends we booked a day trip with our favorite guide Djoky. He dropped us from Senggigi at West Sekotong, where we took a boat to the Gili islands. From West Sekotong you will arrive in only 15 minutes at the first islands, while from Lembar it will take you around 40 minutes. I can recommend you booking a private driver or complete package tour, so you don’t have to search for a boat yourself. In almost any tourist office you can find a day trip to Gili Nanggu or you can contact our local guide Djoky yourself via telephone 0062 813 5314 8978 or Facebook.

How much does it cost to reach Gili Nanggu?

The price for a charter boat (4-6 persons max.) will vary greatly. It will probably cost you around IDR 230.000 from West Sektotong for a day trip including snorkeling material.

A daytrip to Gili Nanggu will look as follow;

– Drive from Senggigi or Kuta to West Sekotong or Lembar
– Take a boat to Gili Nanngu
– Snorkel for two hours at Gili Nanggu
– Take a boat to Gili Kedis
– Snorkel for one hour at Gili Kedis
– Take a boat to Gili Sudak
– Have lunch at Gili Sudak and snorkel some minutes
– Take a boat to Gili Tangkong
– Snorkel for two hours at Gili Tangkong
– Boat back to West Sekotong or Lembar
– Drive back to Senggigi, Kuta, or another place in Lombok

On Gili Nanggu

Gili Nanggu is the most beautiful island of these four Gili’s. There is almost nothing going on. So far, I believe there is only one accommodation and one restaurant on the entire island. We did some snorkeling around Gili Nanggu and there was plenty of beautiful coral and colorful fish around. The beaches at Gili Nanggu are tropical white and you will find crystal clear blue water, where you can perfectly snorkel and swim. At Gili Nanggu we found more fish and coral than on the other Gili islands.

On Gili Kedis

Gili Kedis is the tiniest island! It is probably not bigger than the size of a tennis court, and has the shape of a heart. You won’t find anything on the island, except from some trees in the middle. There are not so many fish around, but it is worth trying.

On Gili Sudak

After visiting Gili Nanggu and Gili Kedis, it is most likely that you will go for lunch at Gili Sudak. This island is a bit smaller than Gili Nanggu and known as the ‘lunch island’. You will find a couple of warungs (around four) where you can order all kind of local dishes like ‘Gado Gado’, ‘Nasi Goreng’, or ‘local fish’.

On Gili Tangkong

From many other Lombok Gili islands, Gili Tangkong is also a paradise, just like Gili Nanggu. Here you can also snorkel for a couple of minutes or hours, and get amazed by the beautiful coral and fish. On this island, you will also find a nice swing and some amazing photo spots.

    1. Hi Fabrice,

Thanks for reading my post. I don’t have a website of this tour, because I booked directly via Djoky, a local guide (telephone 0062 813 5314 8978 or Facebook).

When you are on Lombok, just take a look in the tourist offices. They almost all provide day trips to Gili Nanggu etc.

  1. Hi! We’re planning to take a trip to Gili Islands this June. I was wondering if you have any idea if there are tours or if we can get a boat to Gili Nanggu, Kedis and Sudak from Gili Trawangan? Your post looks great!

    1. Hi Ann, from Gili Trawangan it is not possible to get a boat to Gili- Nanggu, Kedis, and Sudak. Best is to take a fast-boat to Bangsal harbour Lombok and continue your way by car to Sekotong harbour. From here, the three gili islands are very easy to reach. It is also possible to take a boat from Bangsal harbour to the Gili’s, but you have to face high waves and it might become a dangerous trip. Best is to explore the gili’s from Sekotong harbour. Hope this will help you prepare better. Enjoy your trip in June!

      1. Please don’t encourage to feed bread to the fish. This leads to fish not fulfilling their ecologic task and can disturbthe fragile coral reef ecosystems!!!

  2. Yes, I have heard of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air before, but not Gili Nanggu Lombok, so thankyou for the introduction! Fabulous to knowthat you can visit on a day trip – I love the natural beauty of the island. Though obviously with those stunning coral reefs under the sea is the place to be!

  3. Gili Nanggu looks absolutely stunning! I love how it’s a bit off the beaten path as well. You did a great job organizing the “how to” as well. I’d love to snorkel on Gili Tangkong!

  4. Beautiful! The idea of visiting a remote tropical island sounds very appealing. Your photos of the fish look great, I would love to spend the day snorkelling and then lying on one of the beautiful white sand beaches. Thanks for sharing, I will have to visit the Gili Islands if I am ever in Indonesia.

  5. SO many places to see in Indonesia we really can’t wait to be able to go back and spend over a month there. Literally would that be even enough? Anyways heard a lot about this place and we can’t wait to spend some time there. Amazing photos!
