Review: Mercure Budapest City Center Hotel****

Last year, I went to Budapest for a city trip and stayed in the Mercure Budapest City Center Hotel. We chose this hotel, because it looked good from photo’s, reviews and has a perfect location. In this article I will share my experiences about the hotel.

General description: Mercure Hotels
The hotel chain Mercure is a subsidiary of the French Accor. Mercure is the biggest part of the Accor Hotels. You can find the Mercure hotels all over the world, so you may have heard of it before. There are around 766 Mercure hotels in total, spread over 51 countries in the world. The hotels varies from three to four stars. Budapest features three Mercure hotels: ‘Mercure Budapest Buda’, ‘Mercure Budapest City Center Hotel’ and ‘Mercure Budapest Korona Hotel’. The Mercure Budapest City Center Hotel is the one which is located closest to the city center of Budapest.

Location
Like I said before, the location of the hotel is just perfect. That’s also one of the reasons why we chose this hotel: so we could just walk out of the hotel and already be in the center of the city. When you walk out of the hotel, you are already in the biggest street of Budapest, namely Vaci Utca. Here you can find all the shops and also many restaurants and cafes. A great starting point for your city trip in Budapest! From Vaci Utca, you are in no time at the Danube quay and you can easily walk over one of the bridges to the other side of the city. Although you already can find many tourist attractions around Vaci Utca, at the other side of the river you can spend a great day as well. Here you can find the beautiful castle hill of Budapest. In this article you will read more about the places you definitely have to visit when travelling to Budapest.

Facilities
The hotel has a few facilities in the building. There are some conference rooms, so this hotel might be great for a business stay. Furthermore, there is a small bar at the ground floor of the hotel. Here you can have a nice drink or a little snack. The staff is very friendly. For breakfast there is another room, later more about it. Of course there is also a possibility to order room service. WiFi is for free through the whole building. Although this hotel offers not that many facilities, there are many of the facilities missing in the neighbourhood of the hotel.

Hotel room
The hotel features in total 227 rooms. The rooms were very clean and spacious. They were not that luxurious, but very simple and good looking. Everything you needed was there and I slept very well in the bed. Nothing to complain. Although there is a possibility that the crowds from the main street may disturb you, I didn’t mind at all. We stayed at a ‘standard’ room.

Restaurant
For breakfast you can go to the Panoramic dining room. The breakfast buffet is very extensive and the staff works well to keep everything full and clean. If you have a good seat, you can have a nice view on the Vaci Street.

Price
I  have to be honest with you and say that this hotel is not one of the cheapest hotels in Budapest. However, the price-quality balance is very good! You pay a little more, but it’s also worth it. The price also includes a perfect location in the middle of the city center. You can book this hotel via Booking.com.

Overview
The overview is a summary of the points written above. I’ll give a point from one star until five stars where one star is very bad and five stars is very good.

Room size: ****
Room attributes: ***

Like you can see above, I can really recommend spending your trip to Budapest in this hotel. Especially the perfect location makes it a great place to stay.
