One day trip to Brussels: the must sees

During my stay in Belgium I visited Brussels many times. It is an amazing city with many beautiful and interesting attractions which you can easily visit in one day. In this post, I will tell you what to do in Brussels during your one day trip.

Start form the Mont des Artes (not far from the train station), literally translated as mountain of Art. Indeed, in this area there are loads of museums and exhibitions. My personal favourite is the Museum of Magritte, both because I love the works of this author but also the structure of the museum itself is not ordinary at all: starts for the top and ends at the bottom!

Another reason why Mont des Artes is worth a walk is it’s view. In fact, since the mountain is in a higher position than the rest of the city, it is possible to see a really pretty view of the city centre.

Other attractions that you will be able to see when walking around are the Royal Palace and it’s beautiful park in front of it and Brussels Cathedral, Cathédrale des Ss- Michel et Gudule.

From there you can walk down the stairs, cross the street and you’ll find yourself right in the city centre, precisely in Place St.Cathrine.

From there, on your left there will be the Gran Place (Brussels main square) while on your right there’s theGaleries Royales where chocolate and jewellery stores are positioned one after another!
If you have time, I advise you to walk around the streets near the Gran Place, you’ll notice beautiful buildings and delicious waffles & fries shops!

Otherwise, go straight to the Manneken Pis, Brussels symbol:a statue of a little boy peeing. The statues is dressed up for many occasions, so if you see him dressed with weird cloths, don’t worry, it’s still him!! Near there it’s also possible to see the  recent female version of this statue the Jenneken Pis.

From there you can easily get to the Metro station ” De Brouchere”, grab the yellow or pink line direction Weststation and get off at the Atomium. There’s a fee entrance to visit it around 10€, otherwise you can just take pictures from the outside and re-take the subway to the centre so that you won’t need to buy a new ticket

If you feel like shopping, Rue Dansaert has many shops and stores which could satisfy you. While if you feel like vintage shopping (you’ll have to walk a bit for this one) Rue Haute and Rue Blaes would be perfect! From these streets you can get an elevator and reach Place Poelaert. From the terrace of this square you can have another beautiful overview of the city plus, just behind you there will be this enormous building which happens to be the Palais de Justice (Palace of Justice).

This would be a pretty intense tour if you do it in one day but if your time there is limited it’s totally feasible but it is to say that there would be many more attractions to see such as the Cinquantennaire (the Belgian version of the Arc Du Triomphe in Paris), the Comic Strip Museum… the list could go on but I believe that what I included in this post can be categorized as the main attraction
