Planning a Wedding in Bali? 5 Things You Need to Know

Bali is an exotic heaven that many choose for the perfect honeymoon spot. However, this is also one of the most desired wedding destinations in the world. The gorgeous landscapes and a clear blue sea of this Indonesian island are already ideal wedding decorations.

So, if you plan to get married among amazing Balinese natural beauty, here are some things you need to know.

1. Start planning in time

To have your perfect “I Do” day, you will need to plan it carefully and in time. Start by securing the date and location since Bali is popular and will book fast. The best time to do this is at least 12 months before the wedding day.

This is also important so that you can inform your guests and give them time to prepare for the travel to your wedding, especially financially. This will give you a breathing space as well since you can then concentrate on other details.

2. Pick the venue

Bali is a remarkable place and offers a variety of venues. Whether you choose to get married in a luxurious villa or the beach, you will still need to make a definitive decision. This means that at least once, you will need to travel to Bali and scout the locations.

Another important issue is to find accommodation for all your guests, as well as yourselves. The menu will depend on the venue as well. Therefore, the sooner you find the venue, the easier it will be to come up with the catering.

3. The Banjar fee

Banjar fee is a standard procedure in Bali that many foreigners forget about. However, this is a must if you want to get married on this paradise island. This fee buys you the permission to have your wedding in the village.

The amount you have to pay depends on the village, so make sure to check this information as well when booking a venue. Banjar serves to compensate people in the village for putting up with the noise and traffic you will create during the wedding. If you want a villa for a wedding venue, also be prepared to pay an event fee.

4. Hire a wedding planner

Since you can’t spend all the time in Bali to organize everything, you will need help. Hire Bali wedding planners to deal with all those details and fulfill your every wish. Plan your wedding together with a professional and let them handle the paperwork.

Also, wedding planners know the best venues, music, caterers, and entertainers you can hire, so you will get that obligation of your hands, as well. Just be clear about what you want and expect them to do, no matter how impossible it may sound. You would be surprised what a good wedding planner can do.

5. Decide what type of wedding you want

Since wedding requires a certain level of bureaucracy, you will have to think about filling in some paperwork. When it comes to Bali, you have two options to get married: a legal ceremony or a symbolic one. However, even if you decide to have a legal ceremony and officially married in Bali, you need to follow a certain procedure.

Although specifics can vary, the legal ceremony also includes the religious and civil one. The religious ceremony is mandatory and it has to respect one of the official religions in Bali.

Lastly

Planning a wedding in Bali may be challenging, but in the end, it will be well worth it. Just pick the right season to avoid heavy rain season, and hire a wedding planner to fulfill your wishes. And in the blink of an eye, your special day will arrive and it will be just as you imagined it – perfect.

Thank you so much for this article! I got engaged just before the covid-19 pandemic became so widespread and now we are on lockdown (talk about a pre-marriage relationship test!) on the bright side I can focus more on wedding planning for next summer. Bali seems like an ideal location as my family will mostly come from Europe and my fiance’s from Australia so we can meet in the middle for celebration and holiday at the same time. At this point I’ve done a bit of research but definitely agree that I need a wedding planner to navigate the local intricacies (like Banjar fee – didn’t know about that!) and I came across some gorgeous photos of a wedding on a cliff at sunset from Seven Agency. Have you heard of this company? Their reviews look good but just wondering if you have any insight on this wedding planner or others who can help me from afar. Thank you and stay safe during these crazy times!

Congratulations! Thanks for reading our article. Unfortunately, we have no collaborating experience with ‘The Seven Agency’. We hope you can find some who do! Good luck with all the preparations and also stay safe during this crazy time!

Well, we did not get married there but it definitely is nice and relaxing place to go for a honeymoon as well. The locals are friendly, food is delicious and mostly safe to eat. Sunsets are probably the most stunning ones on earth and prices are cheap for western travelers. 🙂 Of course there is some flaws like the dogs roaming around but mostly I found Bali very attracting, beautiful and relaxing place for honeymooners.
