Stana Puri Gopa Sanur, a traditional Balinese hotel with a story

Looking for a relaxing destination on your next trip to Bali? Pick a hotel in Sanur and experience Bali in a more comfortable way. There are some great hotels in Sanur, but how to choose between all of them? If you are looking for a more traditional Balinese hotel, that is not too expensive, but is comfortable and unique, you might like to stay at ‘Stana Puri Gopa Sanur‘.

Stana Puri Gopa Sanur

The Stana Puri Gopa Hotel is family owned and offers a traditional Balinese hospitality. It is a hotel with a story, that is not part of a big random hotel brand. The family still lives on the hotel compound and tries to share the Balinese habits, culture, food, and architecture with its guests. You can visit the family temple, and watch the daily offerings by the Balinese staff. Once in a while, special events or ceremonies are organized on the hotel’s compound. I personally like it a lot to stay in this kind of hotels. They are usually small scaled, give you the chance to learn about the hotel’s history and you support a local family rather than an international investor. Moreover, they often give you a real holiday feeling. This holiday feeling at Stana Puri Gopa Sanur, is mainly caused by the authentic Balinese architecture, the Balinese temples, and the lush tropical garden, on the hotel’s compound. So, if you are looking for a small-scaled, cheap, and traditional hotel with a story, you are reading the right post!

The hotel is located in the heart of Sanur. It has a perfect location, close to the beach (only 5 minutes walk) and at the end of Jalan Danau Tamblingan, the main street of Sanur. At this street you can find plenty of restaurants, cafes, motorbike rental places, supermarkets, and places where you can get a massage or buy souvenirs. If you stay at this hotel, you don’t necessary need a motorbike. The beach and many lovely eating places are on walking distance.

As mentioned before, Stana Puri Gopa Sanur has a lovely garden. It is nice to walk around and get relaxed. There is also a pool available on which the sun is shining all day. Personally, I like this a lot, so you can sunbath at the pool and the water isn’t too cold for a swim. In the lobby of the hotel, you can book some excursions, transportation to the airport, or rent a car. There is a private parking area in front of the hotel and I believe it is even possible to do your laundry.

You can find a small, but cozy, restaurant in the garden, ‘Bandgar Restaurant‘, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is served. Breakfast was included in my room price. Everyday a buffet provide you plenty of choice for breakfast. You can choose between a continental, Indonesian or Western dish, for example nasi goreng, fried soya (tempe), sausages, fresh eggs (boiled, fried, scramble etc.), bread and jam. This came with juice and Bali coffee or tea. It was honestly one of the best breakfasts I had for a while!

The rooms are fairly big and spacious with hot water, bathtub, air-conditioning, television, and WiFi facilities (not too strong connection). I had a room adjacent to the pool and the front entrance area, a superior room, I believe. This room also had a refrigerator, water boiler, free coffee, tea, and bottled water, and free toiletries like shampoo, body lotion, and soap. I really loved the outside sitting area in front of my room. The Balinese architecture and details of this outside area are amazing.

The next day, I moved to a Standard Room on the first floor. This room was also spacious, had a comfortable bed, hot water shower, bathtub, television, air-conditioning, and a spacious balcony. If you are planning to stay at this hotel, I do recommend you to stay at a superior room. I personally love it more to have a little patio, instead of a balcony, and the architecture of this room is more beautiful than at the standard rooms.

The hotel is also very environmentally concerned. In every room you can find a small sign in the bathroom that ask hotel guests to consider reusing their towels and switching air-conditioning off when leaving the room in an effort to help the environment.

This hotel can be considered as a budget hotel. Room rates differ between € 22,00 and € 53,00 per room, so when staying with two persons, it will only costs you around € 11,00 per person for the cheapest room. I would recommend you to book online for the best rates.

This overview is a summary of the above written text. I will rank the different aspects with stars, in what one star is very bad and five stars is very good.

What a time to come across a hotel post in Bali. I’d be heading there in December and hope to check out Stana Puri Gopa Hotel. I’m all about traditional stuff and the hotel does look quite amazing.
Love Balinese food, the breakfast spread reads really nice as do the pictures.
Superior room would be my choice as well, thanks to the patio and access to the pool.
    Thanks for the info!

The Stana Puri Gopa Hotel is fittingly exotic, given that it is located in a place as exotic as Bali.I was enamoured by the colourful and vibrant designs and the fact that it is a heritage property makes it really charming. I can also see that the place has all the modern amenities and comforts seamlessly integrated into its heritage ambience.
