Hotel Nassau Breda: a former monastery

The city of Breda in the Netherlands is really diverse and therefor it’s perfect for a city trip! A while ago, me and my boyfriend were looking for a nice accommodation which would be a great starting point for exploring more of the city. We found Hotel Nassau during our search: this hotel totally fitted our wishes and we booked a room for one night. In this article I’d like to tell you more about our experiences with the hotel.
Would you like to read more about the city of Breda? I’ve written a city guide which you can find by clicking here.
Location
The location of Hotel Nassau is perfect! The building is located in the middle of the city center and within a few minutes walking distance to the shopping streets. Also close from the hotel is the Tolbridge, where you can find many cosy terraces and eateries.
As the hotel is located in the center, it’s easy to reach the hotel by public transportation. From the train station of Breda Central, it’s approximately 20 minutes by foot. Of course you can also take the bus from the train station towards the hotel. If you arrive by car, it’s easiest to park you car in the parking garage ‘De Barones’. Although the hotel offers a Valet Parking option (€ 35,- per night), parking garage De Barones is a good and cheaper alternative. The garage is open 24 hours per dag and you pay € 14,- per 24 hours.
The rooms
Hotel Nassau devides her rooms in four room types:
- Superior King / Twin Room (25 sqm)
- Executive Room (28 sqm, including a welcome drink and valet parking)
- Junior Suite (33 sqm, also including a welcome drink and valet parking)
- Panoramic Suite (31 sqm, including a magnificent view over the city, a welcome drink and valet parking)
During our time in Breda, we stayed at the Superior King Room. Although our room was quite small (we had a room at the corner of the floor, which I thought was smaller than the rest of the Superior Rooms), it was very modern furnished. The room had a large king bed, a desk, a television, a closet, an extra chair and some coffee and tea facilities. The bathroom was really beautiful and everything was so clean (that always makes me happy). I really enjoyed my stay in this room.
Restaurant
At the back of the hotel, you can find restaurant Liefdegesticht, where you can have a nice lunch or dinner. When the weather is beautiful, you can also take place on the terrace of the restaurant. During my time in Breda I haven’t eaten at the restaurant, so I cannot tell about my personal experience. However, I’ve walked through the restaurant and the ambiance was really nice. The restaurant is open from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
There also is a beautiful saloon in the hotel where you’ll have your breakfast. Breakfast is served in buffet style. Although I really loved the saloon, I was just a little bit disappointed in the breakfast itself. It was good, but I did miss a little bit more choice.
The hotel also has a bar called Bar Heiligdom. Here you can have some delicious drinks, cocktails and culinary bites.
Facilities
In addition to the restaurants, the hotel also offers a fitness center and room for having a conference , business meeting or even a wedding. There are lots of possibilities for events.
Service
I’m really happy about the service of the employees of the hotel. Especially the receptionists were really kind and were happy to help us with all our questions. The receptionist who helped us, asked us about what our plans were and also gave us some tips, which was really nice. When, at the end of our stay, we found out that we paid our stay twice, the receptionist immediately helped us and took care of paying us back.
Price
Staying a night at Hotel Nassau, in a Superior Room, including breakfast, cost around € 130,-. However, it differs of course per period. For the nice stay you’ll get in return, it’s absolutely a good price-quality ratio. It’s not a hotel for budget travellers, but if you’re looking for a unique accommodation, hotel Nassau Breda can be something for you. You can book the hotel through Booking.com.
