Hostel review: Stayokay Texel, the Netherlands
When visiting the Netherlands, you should definitely consider a trip to one of the Dutch Wadden islands. This spring, I visited Texel, the largest island in the Wadden Sea, where I stayed in a hostel called; ‘Stayokay Texel’. This was a great place to overnight. Within this post, I will share all the pros and cons of this hostel with you.
Note: This post is not sponsored and contains my personal and honest experience.

General description and location
Stayokay Texel is located in Den Burg, the municipality capital of Texel. The hostel is part of the ‘Stayokay’ chain that currently consists of 22 hostels around the Netherlands. Den Burg is centrally located on the island, around 8 kilometers from the ferry and 6 kilometers from the beach. From this location, it is easy to reach every corner of the island. The hostel also has many parking places, so you can drive there as well. Parking is free.
Rooms
The hostel has ten different kind of rooms; Private 1-2-3-4-5-6 persons room, 4-person family room, and bed in a 4-person mixed-, female- or male room. During my stay, I booked a 4-persons room with 3 friends. Up on arrival we received bed linen to make our own bed. Towels were not included. The room was clean and a comfortable size for four persons. We got our own bathroom facility with a hot! shower and separate toilet, that looked clean as well. There was also a wardrobe, mirror, sink, and a table with two chairs in the room. Like other hostels, I don’t understand why there were only two chairs. When you book a room for four persons, it would be nice if all the four persons could sit down in the room. There was enough space available for two more chairs…. I also missed some personal lockers… Anyway, we did have a huge window door, which was very nice to get some fresh air into the room. There was also good WiFi connection. Overall, I was satisfied with the room, I only missed some chairs and lockers in the room.

Restaurant and bar
Breakfast is standard included in the price. The buffet was very extensive and very good. On Sunday, there was some live music during the breakfast and the buffet was a bit more extensive than on the weekdays. However, the buffet in general is very good and consists of a lot of things; fresh croissants, other breads, fried eggs, boiled eggs, omelettes, pancakes, different kinds of cheese and meat, yogurt, muesli, milk, soy milk, chocolate milk, fruits, and more.
You can also have lunch or dinner in the hostel. Every evening the hostel provides a 3-course buffet dinner. One night, I ate dinner in the hostel. The food was good and enough.

Common area
There are many facilities in the common area. Think about table tennis, a pool table, and a football table. There is also a reading table with nice magazines and books. Outside you can find a terrace and a garden with lawn and barbecue possibilities. There is also a huge playground.
Reception and luggage room
The staff of the reception was really friendly. They provided us with a lot of useful information about what to do on Texel. We arrived a bit earlier than the check-in time, but we could use the luggage room and come back later. This was a nice service.
Overall, ‘Stayokay Texel’ is a very nice hostel to stay. The rooms have a comfortable size and are clean, the location and the breakfast is very good and the staff is really friendly. I can definitely recommend staying in this hostel, while visiting Texel!
Price
For a 4-persons room with private bathroom and including breakfast, we paid € 27,25 per person, per night. This is a reasonable price in the Netherlands for a hostel.
Tips:
– You can rent a bike at the ferry harbor on Texel. This is very cheap to rent and will be a nice experience.
– They have a little gift shop.
– The hostel offers different kinds of packages.
