Durmitor National Park is magnificent! It actually was thé highlight of my trip through Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. Mountains, farmlands, lakes, hiking trails; this national park has it all! I’ve such a great time exploring this beautiful area of Montenegro. Besides, we stayed at the perfect location! In the middle of Durmitor National Park, looking over the mountains, close to the center of Zabljak, you can find Etno selo Smrčevo brdo. It’s the perfect starting point for exploring Durmitor National Park, plus the stay is in cute, wooden cabins. It’s just lovely!
From the center of Zabljak, it’s only a 10-minute drive to the accommodation. Yet the cabins are located in the middle of nature. When you travel from Bosnia & Herzegovina (for example Sarajevo) towards Durmitor National Park, you drive one of the most beautiful routes of the whole trip. There are five cabins from which one is suitable for a group of eight persons and two are suitable for a group of six persons. The other two cabins are suitable for four persons.
The cabins are all so new! During our stay (end of August), the accommodation was only open for ten days. The owner told us we were actually his sixth guests, which made it extra special. You could definitely see at the cabins that they were completely new. It’s so nice to sleep in a new, wooden cabin. Ours was suitable for six persons: there was a double bed, two single beds and a sofa bed. Every cabin also has its own private bathroom and kitchen. Besides, there is a nice porch where you can sit in during the day.
There aren’t much of other facilities (there is no public area, reception, swimming pool etc.), but it has everything you need.
Another positive aspect: the owner tries everything to make your stay perfect! It’s a really kind man: at arrival we got some coffee with chocolate, but we also got a nice breakfast (you can book this additionally against a small payment). You can even chose what kind of breakfast you would like: local or continental. Both are absolutely delicious and home-made by his mother. It’s a real treat!
When we were planning a trip through the park during our full day off in Durmitor, the owner helped us with choosing the places we should go to. There were several lakes he advised us to go to and those places were magnificent: beautiful environment and no crowds at all. We also did a small hike, were we had a great view over the mountains at the end of it. The accommodation is located very centrally and all of these places in Durmitor National Park are easily to reach if you have a rental car.
Would you like to know more about Durmitor National Park and the places to visit? Stay tuned, as I’m going to write an extensive guide very soon.
Etno selo Smrčevo brdo doesn’t have its own website yet, but we booked this accommodation on Booking.com. Looking at the price-quality ratio I can see that it’s very cheap for everything that you get in return. The cheapest cabin (for four persons, but booked by two persons) is € 37,- per night (excluding breakfast and of course depending on the time you book). You can optionally book breakfast for € 5,- per person, per day. I can say that it’s absolutely worth it to book the optional breakfast, as its delicious and much what you get!
If you’re planning a trip to Montenegro and Durmitor National Park, this is absolutely a recommendation!
